In feng shui study, water controls our wealth. Chinese believe that having an aquarium with 8 or 9 feng shui fishes in the house will bring good fortunes and wealth. In Cantonese, the number 8 have the same pronunciation as prosperity and the number 9 have the same pronunciation as long lasting. Both numbers are deemed to have an auspicious symbolism. Based on He Tu and Lou Shu numerology, it would be auspicious to keep 1,4,6 or 9 fishes. In He Tu numerology, number 1 and 6 represent water while number 4 and 9 represent metal. By using numbers with a water or metal element, it will increase the effectiveness of the water feature in enhancing one's personal luck. Alternately, one may also rear a combination of 1 black, 6 white and 8 yellow fishes to create a productive cycle of the 5 elements to symbolize inexhaustible wealth. In Lou Shu numerology, 1 represent water, 6 represent metal and 8 represent earth. The element earth produces metal and metal will in turn produces water. In Chinese, numbers 1,6 and 8 together is pronounced as Yi Lu Fa meaning continuous prosperity.
For feng shui purposes, black fish is used to neutralize sha qi while white and gold fishes are more effective in the enhancement of wealth. According to the Chinese custom, red colour is widely used in special occasions (like wedding and birthday celebrations) to harness auspicious yang qi. Thus, one may also rear red fishes to enhance job status and authority. In commercial
feng shui, one may choose the colour of fishes that suits the element
of their industry. To quote an example, financial institutions, brokerage
firms and car sale industry may keep gold or yellow fishes to increase
sales volume and business flows. Currently, feng shui fishes such as Arowana, Japanese Koi, Cichlid and Goldfish are the favourites among businessmen. Arowana is popularly known to the Chinese as the Golden Dragon as its body is covered with large golden scales that glitter in the water. Cichlid, which is also known as Luo Han, too has a very auspicious name. On the head of the Cichlid is a hump, which is said to symbolize longevity. Due to the territorial nature of the Arowana and Cichlid, these fishes are generally more suitable for those in the sales or broking industry.
The application of water features as a means of wealth enhancement can act like a double-edged sword. If the water placement method is applied correctly, it will improve ones financial health but will also backlash if not applied accurately To benefit
from a feng shui placement, one must feel good about the placement and
new qi. If the placement of the water feature can elevate ones spirit
and mood, it will naturally improve ones health and wealth. This
in turn will increase ones chances of success and opportunities
in their undertakings and business ventures. |
